What we
fixed

A tank base raft on a water treatment site, fixed as a single package from setting out to sign-off.

The raft was fixed as a double mat: bottom steel laid, spaced and tied first, then chairs and top steel worked off the same setting-out lines. Bar marks came off the client’s schedules and were checked against the drawing before each section was closed out.

Cover was held on proprietary spacers and chairs to the values on the engineer’s drawing. Laps were positioned to the schedule rather than the gang’s convenience, and starter bars for the tank wall were set and tied off before the pour so nothing had to be moved later.

Access was sequenced with the groundworker so the gang worked away from the concrete gang, and the raft was handed over as complete sections rather than one inspection at the end.

How it ran

Four stages, worked back from the pour dates on the contractor’s programme.

  1. Week 1

    Setting out and bottom steel

Schedules checked against the drawing, setting-out lines agreed with the site engineer, bottom mat laid and spaced.

  2. Weeks 2–3

    Chairs and top steel

Chairs set to hold cover, top mat tied out section by section, laps positioned to the schedule.

  3. Week 4

    Wall starters

Tank wall starters set and tied off in position, so the wall gang inherited steel that did not need adjusting.

  4. Week 5

    Inspection and pour

Sections walked with the engineer, snags closed the same day, raft released for the pour on the programme date.

Raft steel complete, on spacers, ahead of the engineer’s walk.
